Wainwright Runners Backyard Ultra 2026

The Wainwright Runners Backyard Ultra 2026 is the inaugural event of its kind for the town of Wainwright, Alberta. Scheduled for Saturday, May 2, 2026, starting at 08:00 AM MDT, the race follows the classic "Last Person Standing" format: a 6.7 km loop must be completed every hour on the hour. The event is capped at a maximum of 24 hours (totaling 100 miles). Beyond the competition, the race serves as a fundraiser for the Wainwright Pound in memory of Lassa, the late dog of race founder Shane Mascarin, with CA$20 from each registration donated to the shelter.

Wainwright is a prominent town in east-central Alberta with a population of approximately 6,600 residents. It is primarily known as a "military town," housing CFB Wainwright, one of the busiest army bases in Canada.
