This fall, the Vechtdal Cross Competition celebrates its 11th edition with pride and excitement. The series kicks off traditionally during the Lemelerbergloop, an annual race that draws runners from across the region.
The competition offers a unique opportunity for participants to experience some of the most scenic cross-country terrain in the Netherlands. Runners will traverse through lush forests surrounding Lemele, Staphorst, Vroomshoop, Ommen, and Hardenberg, each location offering its own distinct challenges and beauty.
This year’s event includes new categories specifically designed for runners aged 60 and above, both men and women can compete in the short as well as long-distance races. It's a celebration of endurance and passion for running among seasoned athletes who continue to push their limits despite advancing age.
For those looking to join all five races over the season, entry fees are very reasonable at €40 (seniors) or €15 (youth), with an early bird discount available until August 31st. Participants can enjoy reduced rates of €35 for seniors and €12.50 for youth.
Competitors will face off in various age categories, vying for top spots on the leaderboard. To be eligible for end-of-season prizes, runners must complete at least four out of five races. At the conclusion of each race day, there are attractive awards waiting for the winners and runners-up across different categories.
The youth category, comprising participants up to 15 years old, also features three distinct age groups competing in distances ranging from 1250 meters to 2000 meters depending on location. This year’s opening event is scheduled for November 7th at Lemel, setting the stage for an exciting autumn of cross-country racing.
