Nestled deep within the Amazonian rainforest lies ULTRA TRAIL NANCIBO, a 65-kilometer race that promises an unparalleled adventure. The course winds through ancient forest paths and challenging layon sections, offering runners breathtaking views of nature's raw beauty.
The journey begins at 06:00 on October 26th from the start line located at Km32 along Route Nationale 2 (RN2), just as it meets the Nancibo trail. The first 34 kilometers follow the well-worn path, starting with a sunny stretch that gradually transitions into dense undergrowth by mid-morning. Runners can expect relatively flat terrain for most of this section before hitting the more rugged paths later in the race.
After approximately 16 kilometers, participants will encounter Layon, an eleven-kilometer trail that immerses you fully within the Amazonian ecosystem. Here, you'll pass through Balata Crique and experience a mix of flat sections followed by steep ascents to follow the ridge for about four kilometers. The latter part gets increasingly demanding with more frequent creek crossings.
For those participating in Run & Bike (R&Bike), note that while there are some rolling sections early on, the majority of your ride will be challenging due to uneven terrain and dense vegetation.
The course features five key aid stations: at Km16.4 by Sylvain FIRMIN's home; just beyond the end of Nancibo trail at Km34 where a 4x4 vehicle is stationed since the previous night; then again after the Layon section, also covered by quad vehicles overnight starting from Km50, providing self-service water and snacks.
In case you need to withdraw, expect transportation back to RN2 via 4x4s. For VTT riders, any issues before the fifth kilometer will see a return journey to Nancibo; beyond that point, evacuation is directed towards Risk Tout section.
Safety measures include dedicated vehicles following runners until completion and ensuring smooth operations throughout both trails.
This event not only tests physical limits but also offers a unique cultural experience with local support teams and post-race celebrations featuring traditional Grenadine Jungle drinks, meals, and refreshments. Prizes from DECATHLON and Pierre Demanchaux Trophies await the top performers.
ULTRA TRAIL NANCIBO requires significant preparation over two years of training sessions spread across 38 weekends. Participants should bring trail shoes, a camel back with at least two liters of water, front lights, and essential survival kits. GPS files will be available for download in September, mandating the use of compatible devices to navigate effectively.
