Turbine Traverse 2026: GrALBA Series Round 6 Set against the backdrop of Whitelee Windfarm near Eaglesham, the Turbine Traverse is a formidable gravel race that challenges even the most seasoned riders. Spanning an impressive distance of 100 kilometers, this event comprises three laps of a rugged and scenic 33-kilometer circuit, totaling nearly 980 meters in elevation gain. The Whitelee Windfarm offers a unique setting with its expansive landscape dotted by towering turbines, providing both technical challenges and breathtaking views. The Turbine Traverse is renowned for being one of the fastest courses on the GrALBA Series, making it particularly appealing to "Roleur" type riders who excel at high-speed gravel racing. Registration takes place from 8:30 AM to 10:30 AM, allowing ample time for participants to sign in and collect their race numbers. The event kicks off with a youth start at 10:00 AM, setting the stage for an exhilarating day of competition. Championship racing heats up as open senior, junior, and elite categories begin rolling out at 11:40 AM, followed closely by veteran riders aged 40+ starting just five minutes later. The female championship wave follows promptly after at noon, marking a significant moment in the race. In addition to the main event for adult participants (waves one through three), there is also an inclusive option featuring a single lap of the circuit. This third wave ensures that all riders have the opportunity to experience the unique terrain and atmosphere of Whitelee Windfarm. Whitelee Wind Farm is a windfarm on the Eaglesham moor in Scotland. The main visitor centre is located in East Renfrewshire, but the majority of turbines are located in East Ayrshire and South Lanarkshire. It is the largest on-shore wind farm in the United Kingdom with 215 Siemens and Alstom wind turbines and a total capacity of 539 megawatts (MW), with the average of 2.5 MW per turbine. Whitelee was developed and is operated by ScottishPower Renewables, which is part of the Spanish company Iberdrola.
