Immerse yourself in the historic and scenic beauty of Shropshire as you lace up your running shoes for the Railway Ultra. Scheduled to return on February 20th, 2027, this winter edition promises an unforgettable journey along the disused railway line that stretches between Ironbridge and Bridgnorth alongside the River Severn. Choose from five distinct distances: a challenging ultra at either 37 miles or 28 miles, a half marathon of 13.1 miles, a quarter-marathon distance of 19 miles, or the more approachable 9-mile option. Each out-and-back lap measures an even 9.4 miles, with well-stocked aid stations placed every 4.7 miles to ensure you stay fueled and hydrated throughout your run. The route offers breathtaking views of the River Severn, framed by remnants of the area's rich industrial past. As runners traverse this historic path, they'll be treated to panoramic vistas and glimpses into a time when industry thrived along these riverbanks. Race day starts early with the 37-mile ultra beginning at 8:30 AM, followed closely by all other distances starting promptly at 9:00 AM. Participants have seven hours to complete their chosen distance, providing ample opportunity to soak in the stunning surroundings and enjoy the unique atmosphere of this event. The heart of race operations is located behind The Woodbridge Public House on TF8 7JF, where runners will find all necessary information and support. Parking for participants can be found at Coalport China Museum or nearby Coalport YHA, both a short ten-minute walk from Race HQ (fees apply). For those looking to extend their stay in this picturesque region, several charming pubs are within easy reach of the start line: The Woodbridge Inn, Shakespeare Pub with accommodation options, Brewery for its affordable and delicious meals, and Boat Inn by the riverside. Additionally, Coalport YHA is just a mile away from the starting point. Join us as we celebrate the Railway Ultra’s return in 2027 – an event that seamlessly blends physical challenge with historical charm and natural beauty.
