The Willow 10 & 20 Miler

The Willow 10 & 20 Miler is a scenic trail running event scheduled for Saturday, May 2, 2026, at Willow River State Park in Hudson, Wisconsin. Hosted by the St. Croix Running Company, the race provides a challenging mix of terrain through one of Wisconsin's most popular state parks, located just 30 to 40 minutes from the eastern Twin Cities area. The event is designed to highlight the park’s diverse ecosystems, ranging from dense forests and open grasslands to the dramatic 200-foot-deep gorge carved by the Willow River.

Geographically, Willow River State Park spans nearly 3,000 acres of rolling terrain. The course takes runners to the far corners of the park, offering panoramic views and technical variations including grass, gravel, and woodland single-track. The centerpiece of each loop is Willow Falls, a powerful multi-tiered cascade. In early May, the Wisconsin climate typically features mild but damp spring conditions, with average temperatures around 16°C (61°F). However, the gorge and forested sections can retain moisture, making for potentially soft trail conditions that reward runners with versatile footwear.

Logistically, race day begins with registration and bib pickup at 6:00 AM. For the 10-mile loop, an aid station is positioned at the 6.75-mile mark, stocked with water, BPN GO gels, and wrapped snacks. Athletes in the 20-mile distance have access to a second aid station at the completion of their first lap, where they can also access personal drop bags. Registration for the event closes on Wednesday, April 29, at 11:59 PM CT. Historical top performances include Patrick Larson’s 2025 finish of 2:04:13, showcasing the speed potential of these well-maintained Wisconsin trails.
