About the Event

On November 28, 2026, the vibrant neighborhood of Third Ward comes alive with energy and community spirit for The Third Ward Mile. This USA Track & Field-sanctioned race invites runners to experience a historic stretch of Emancipation Avenue, one of Houston’s oldest and most culturally significant streets. Open to all ages six and up, the event offers divisions for youth heats, open races, an elite competition, and a community walk suitable for families with strollers.
The atmosphere is electric as participants gather at 5000 Emancipation Ave from 7:00 AM to 10:00 AM in The Third Ward Mile Athlete's Village. Here, runners can warm up, hydrate, register on the day of the race, and connect with fellow athletes before the start.
After crossing the finish line at Emancipation Park Conservancy (3018 Emancipation Ave), participants are invited to celebrate their achievement in The Finishers Village from 8:00 AM until noon. This vibrant space features a birthFUND family zone where parents and children can enjoy play areas, music, food vendors, and community organizations.
Joining Team birthFUND offers runners the chance to support maternal health initiatives while participating in this meaningful event. Whether you're racing or walking with your loved ones, The Third Ward Mile promises an unforgettable day of movement, connection, and celebration.
