The Run to Cure VHL

About the Event

Von Hippel-Lindau disease (VHL) is a rare genetic disorder that significantly increases the chance that you’ll have certain kinds of cancerous (malignant) tumors and noncancerous (benign) tumors and cysts. The cause of VHL is a mutation to the VHL gene. Everyone has a VHL gene and its job is to put the brakes on tumor growth in the human body. If you have VHL, your VHL gene lacks that component and at times will excel tumor growth throughout the body. Historically, the average life expectancy for an individual with VHL was around 40 to 52 years, but advancements in early diagnosis and treatment in the last 20 years have increased it to 67 years for males and 60 years for females. We want to be part of raising that number.

We are grateful for what God-through technology & science, has done; but our race doesn't stop there! We want to run the race and fight hard until a cure is found! From this desire-the "Good Race" non-profit was born. It started with a man living with VHL (and dominating it), siblings (and their spouses) who are his biggest fans and admirers, and a friend (who happens to be a run coach) with a heart of Gold and a passion for making a difference. Together our team is working to bring to light what VHL is and to make sure no one will ever fight alone. Alongside of you, we will raise money and awareness so those with this disease may live a life without limits. Our aim: to bring Glory to God and to open eyes to what God can do even through our toughest obstacles. We are excited to have you be a part of that!
