The Ripper - Sunrise to Sunset

The Ripper – Sunrise to Sunset is a timed endurance challenge scheduled for Saturday, May 2, 2026, at the Pocomoke YMCA in Pocomoke, Maryland. Hosted by the nonprofit Algonquin Ultras, the race begins precisely at sunrise (6:15 AM) and concludes at sunset (7:56 PM), giving participants a total of 13 hours and 41 minutes to cover as much distance as possible. The event emphasizes community and eco-friendly trail running, with all proceeds supporting the maintenance and expansion of the Delmarva trail system.

The geography of the Pocomoke area is characterized by the flat but rugged coastal plains of Maryland's Eastern Shore. The 3.3-mile course consists primarily of single-track trails featuring rolling mountain bike hills and dense, root-covered terrain that requires significant agility and focus. In early May, the local climate can be humid with temperatures typically reaching 21°C (70°F), though the shaded forest canopy of the Pocomoke State Forest area provides some relief from the direct sun. Only full loops are recorded; for the 2026 edition, a new tie-breaker rule specifies that if total loop counts are equal, the runner who finished their final loop the fastest will be ranked higher.

Logistically, the event center is based at the Pocomoke YMCA, providing runners with access to plumbed bathrooms and showers throughout the day.
