The Heatcheck Mile is a high-speed road racing event scheduled for Saturday, May 2, 2026, in Austin, Texas. Designed as a prelude to "The Driveway’s Wrong Turn" event, this timed one-mile race invites athletes of all abilities to test their raw speed on a competitive stage. The event uses a seeded heat format, ensuring that participants run alongside others of similar ability, culminating in an elite final heat to crown the fastest road miler in the city.

The geography of the course is located in the Onion Creek area of South Austin. The route is specifically chosen for being flat and fast, minimizing elevation changes to facilitate personal best times. The race takes place on paved residential or park roads, providing a smooth surface for maximum traction. In early May, Austin typically sees morning temperatures around 18°C (64°F) with rising humidity; the 7:30 AM start time is a strategic logistical choice to allow runners to complete their effort before the intense Texas heat becomes a factor in athletic performance.

Logistically, the event requires participants to submit a seed time during registration to be placed in the appropriate heat. Heats are organized chronologically, beginning with the slowest predicted times and building toward the fastest. The final two "championship" heats are reserved for top-seeded athletes.
