About the Event

The Filthy 50, celebrating its 12th anniversary this October, is an annual gravel road cycling adventure that takes place on the picturesque backroads of Lanesboro, Minnesota. Set for the second Saturday in October as autumn’s vibrant hues take over the landscape, it promises a unique experience for both seasoned and new cyclists alike.
This year, two route options are available: 25 miles and 50 miles. Participants can choose based on their comfort level or challenge themselves with the longer distance. The event offers an inclusive atmosphere where all riders are welcome to test their limits against nature’s terrain and set personal records.
As you embark from downtown Lanesboro at 9:30 AM, under police escort, you’ll immediately be drawn into a landscape that is as challenging as it is beautiful. For the shorter route, the Pretty Filthy 25-mile riders will follow the creek, climbing Grosbeak and Gentle before descending on Easy Street. The journey then continues with an epic return featuring Grit Road, culminating in a hero’s welcome back to downtown Lanesboro.
The 50-mile route offers a more substantial challenge, starting from the same point but venturing further into the heart of Minnesota’s natural beauty. Cyclists will climb Grosbeak and Gentle before descending on Easy Street again, only this time they’ll face the infamous Dew Drop Hill. Turning south towards “The Big Woods” and Amish country, riders must navigate Grub Hill with caution. West of Henrytown, you'll encounter MMR, a road maintained by local Amish communities that adds an extra layer of authenticity to your ride.
Both routes are lined with minimum maintenance roads, offering varied terrain that demands both endurance and skill. The 50-mile route features over 3200 feet of climbing, providing not just physical challenges but also breathtaking views that make the journey unforgettable. While the Pretty Filthy 25 might be a bit easier on the climbs, it still offers stunning scenery and a memorable experience.
