The Drop is an exhilarating navigation challenge that strips away all familiar elements of racing. There are no predetermined routes, markers, or directions here; instead, participants must rely solely on their instincts and wits to navigate back to the event center from a mysterious drop-off point. ### The Core Challenge: 10 & 15 Mile The heart of The Drop lies in its core challenge — an unmarked journey that can span either 10 or 15 miles, measured as the crow flies. This means your actual route will be significantly longer and more complex than these distances suggest. - Drop 15: For those seeking a true test of endurance and decision-making skills, this is the original version of The Drop. Participants are dropped far from the event center in an unknown location and must find their way back without any navigational aids or maps.
- Drop 10: This shorter but equally intense option offers runners who want to experience the challenge on a more compact scale. Both challenges share identical rules, restrictions, and responsibilities. You'll be blindfolded when dropped off and left completely alone with no guidance whatsoever. The only tools you receive are your race number and an emergency bag — which must remain sealed throughout the event. ### The Drop 6: For Non-Locals Only For those who come from outside the area, there's a special option designed to level the playing field by eliminating local knowledge: - Drop 6: Dropped just six miles away but strictly reserved for non-locals or newcomers unfamiliar with the terrain. This ensures everyone starts on an equal footing and embraces the uncertainty central to The Drop experience. ### How It Works #### Registration Upon registration, you'll hand over all electronic devices, watches, and navigation aids in exchange for your race number and emergency bag — which includes essential survival items but must remain intact throughout the event. #### Deployment You’ll board a bus with a blindfold on or approved safety goggles. Once dropped off at an undisclosed location, you are completely disoriented. No maps, no directions; just a blank slate awaiting your decisions. Once the blindfolds come off and your timer starts ticking, it’s up to you — run, walk, crawl, but find your way back home under any conditions. ### Rules - No GPS: Devices must be sealed inside the emergency bag. - No Maps or Aids: No outside maps are allowed unless provided by organizers (which is rare). - On Foot Only: No shortcuts or transport of any kind. - Emergency Bag Integrity: Breaking the seal results in immediate disqualification. ### Live Tracking For an added layer of safety and excitement, participants can opt for live GPS tracking. This optional feature allows you to share your progress with friends and family via a password sent days before the event. It’s a thrilling way to see how accurately (or inaccurately) your route is being tracked in real-time. ### Important Notes - Distances are measured as the crow flies, so expect your actual journey to be longer. - GPS trackers must be returned at the end of the race; failure to do so incurs a £175 fee.
The Drop isn’t just about reaching the finish line — it’s about embracing uncertainty and pushing through uncharted territory. Are you ready for this unique adventure?
