The Drop - Bristol

The Drop is an exhilarating navigation challenge that strips away all familiar elements of racing, plunging you into a world where uncertainty reigns supreme. Unlike traditional races with clear routes and markers, The Drop presents a unique experience: participants are dropped at undisclosed locations and must find their way back to the event center on their own.
There are three distances available:
- The 10-Mile Challenge: Participants start from an unknown location approximately 10 miles away (as the crow flies) from the finish line. This shorter distance retains all the core challenges of The Drop but offers a more compact, intense experience.

- The 15-Mile Challenge: Considered the original and toughest version, this option drops participants further out at around 15 miles from the event center. With extended distances comes increased decision-making fatigue, making it an ultimate test for seasoned adventurers.
- The Drop 6 (Non-Locals Only): For those traveling in from outside the area or unfamiliar with local terrain, The Drop 6 offers a shorter distance of about six miles but introduces strict rules to ensure fairness. Those who live locally are not eligible for this option as it aims to level the playing field.
Upon registration, all electronic devices including watches and navigation aids must be surrendered. In exchange, participants receive their race number along with an emergency bag that they carry throughout the event. The deployment phase involves boarding a bus blindfolded; once off at your drop location, you are on your own with no further guidance until you make it back to the finish line.
The rules are strict and unyielding:
- No GPS devices can be used unless sealed inside the emergency bag.
- Unauthorized maps or route aids are prohibited.
- Only foot travel is allowed; no shortcuts or external transportation.
- The integrity of the emergency bag must remain intact, with breaking its seal resulting in disqualification.
Live GPS tracking is available as an optional feature for added safety and to share your progress. This system allows friends and family to follow along via a password sent before race day, enhancing the excitement from afar while ensuring participants can be tracked accurately within 5 meters (though signal strength may vary).
The Drop isn't just about reaching the finish line; it's about embracing uncertainty and relying solely on yourself in an unfamiliar environment. Can you find your way home?
