About the Event

Since its inception in 1982, the Abingdon Marathon has been more than just a race; it’s an annual celebration that brings together runners from across the region and beyond. Over the years, this event has raised thousands of pounds for local charities and organizations, making a significant impact on the community.
A key aspect of the marathon is its dedicated team of marshals who ensure the safety and well-being of every runner throughout the course. Known for their enthusiasm and support, these volunteers play an essential role in creating an encouraging atmosphere that keeps spirits high among participants as they tackle the challenging terrain.
Marshals have the unique opportunity to choose a charity or local organization close to their heart, with race organizers making donations on behalf of each volunteer’s chosen cause. This adds another layer of purpose and camaraderie to the event, fostering a sense of community spirit that extends far beyond the finish line.
Volunteers are encouraged to select one section of the route for their shift unless they’re able to help at both the start and finish lines or cover early and late shifts in Abingdon Town Centre. This flexibility allows marshals to contribute effectively while also accommodating various schedules and preferences.
