Ted's Run for Literacy is an inclusive community race that brings together runners and walkers of all ages to support literacy initiatives. The event takes place on October 4, 2026, at Kildonan Park, starting promptly with the longest distance first. The 10 km course begins at 10:00 AM from the Fox & Deer Shelter in Kildonan Park and heads out along Scotia Street towards St. John's Park. Participants will enjoy a scenic route that includes some off-road running through St. John’s Park, complete with a water station and porta-toilet for convenience. The 5 km race starts just five minutes later at 10:05 AM from the same starting point in Kildonan Park. This course exits the park via Scotia Street and then turns around near 328 Scotia Avenue before returning to the start line, offering participants a taste of urban running with a water station available during the turnaround. For those looking for a shorter distance, there's also a 2 km walk/run option starting at 10:10 AM. This out-and-back course remains entirely within Kildonan Park and follows one loop of its designated walking path. While not timed, it provides an easy introduction to race day festivities. All participants are encouraged to join in the spirit of Ted's Run for Literacy, which welcomes runners, walkers, and wheelchair users while ensuring a safe environment by prohibiting skateboards and bicycles on course. The event is designed to be accessible and enjoyable for everyone involved, fostering community engagement and support for literacy programs. Participants can look forward to an atmosphere filled with enthusiasm as they contribute to the cause of promoting reading and learning in their communities. Whether you're running your first race or a seasoned athlete, Ted's Run for Literacy offers something special on October 4th at Kildonan Park.
