About the Event

Takayna Trail is a boutique ultramarathon fundraiser held in remote north-west Tasmania. The event began in 2014 and has grown to become Bob Brown Foundation’s largest annual fundraising event, raising over $400,000 in 2025. The trail is set in the heart of the Takayna wilderness, known for its ancient Gondwanan rainforests. Runners experience diverse landscapes, including rainforests, buttongrass plains and challenging terrain with steep hills and uneven surfaces. Participants can choose from three distances; 22km, 37km or 62km courses. Takayna is one of Earth’s last truly wild places. But this globally significant rainforest is more threatened than ever before — by new mines, logging, and deforestation for a proposed heavy metals mine waste dump. In this age of climate and extinction crises, where intact rainforests, native forests, clean air and water, and wildlife habitat are vanishing, we must urgently protect Takayna.
