Swing Bridge Run

The Swing Bridge Run returns to Beaufort, South Carolina on November 1st, bringing together runners of all ages for a scenic five-kilometer race through the historic downtown area and across the iconic Woods bridge. This year's event is not just another run; it’s part of the larger narrative that connects Beaufort’s community spirit with its commitment to local causes.
As dawn breaks over Henry C. Chambers Waterfront Park, runners will gather under the pavilion for a Sunrise Prayer Gathering at 7:15 am. The air carries whispers from across the water and hints of autumn chill as participants lace up their shoes in preparation for what lies ahead. Beaufort’s streets, lined with ancient live oaks draped in Spanish moss, offer an atmospheric backdrop that sets the stage perfectly for this annual event.
The Swing Bridge Run has been a beloved part of Beaufort's running calendar since its inception two years ago, serving as the second race in the Beaufort Triple Crown Race Series. With each passing year, more runners and walkers join to support three local nonprofits: Beaufort Digital Corridor, Holy Trinity Classical Christian School, and Habitat for Humanity of the Lowcountry. Participants who complete all races will receive special awards recognizing their dedication and endurance.
The race course itself is a USATF-certified 5K route that weaves through historic downtown Beaufort before crossing over Woods bridge. The terrain is primarily flat with smooth asphalt underfoot, making it an ideal run for both seasoned athletes and newcomers alike. Notable landmarks along the way include the Holy Trinity Classical Christian School and various historical sites that add charm and character to each step taken.
Aid stations are strategically placed every mile or so throughout the course, providing hydration and encouragement as runners progress towards their finish line goal. The start/finish area is located at Henry C. Chambers Waterfront Park where participants will find clear signage directing them through the event layout efficiently.
Given that November in Beaufort typically offers mild weather conditions, expect temperatures around 16 degrees Celsius with an average wind speed of 11 kilometers per hour and a humidity level hovering just under three-quarters full. While rainfall is minimal, runners should be prepared for slightly damp trails following morning dew or light showers earlier in the day.

Swing Bridge Run participants must register online through https://runsignup.com/Race/SC/Beaufort/SwingBridge5K before Wednesday, October 29th at midnight. Race packets can also be picked up from Grounded Running on Friday, October 31st between 11 am and 5 pm or the day of the race starting at 6:45 AM until approximately an hour after start time.

All participants should arrive early on race morning with ample time for pre-race preparations such as bib collection and stretching before the festivities begin at 7:15 am under Henry C. Chambers Waterfront Park pavilion.
