About the Event

The Summer Canal Canter is set to take place along the tranquil Grand Western Canal in Tiverton, offering runners two distances: a half marathon and a 10k. Both routes follow the picturesque canal paths, providing participants with stunning views of the lush Devon countryside.
For the half marathon, the journey begins at the Tiverton Canal Basin and continues for approximately 6.6 miles along the canal to Sampford Peverell before turning back towards Tiverton. The route features only minor elevation changes—around 90 feet in total—which makes it a fast and flat course ideal for achieving personal best times.
The shorter 10k race starts at the same location but turns around just past the Tiverton Bridge car park, ensuring that runners enjoy an equally scenic yet more compact experience. Both races are designed to showcase the serene beauty of the Grand Western Canal while providing a challenging and enjoyable run on hard-packed gravel paths.
All finishers will receive a bespoke "Summer Canal Canter" medal with a unique design each year, celebrating their achievement in style. The event schedule includes an 8:30am start for the half marathon and a 9:00am start for the 10k race, with cut-off times of three hours for the longer distance and two hours for the shorter one.
Entry fees are £22 for affiliated runners and £24 for unaffiliated participants in the 10k event. For those tackling the half marathon, prices stand at £35 for affiliated entrants and £37 for non-affiliated competitors. Participants must be over 18 years old to run the half marathon and aged 16 or older for the 10k race.
Proceeds from this year's Summer Canal Canter will go towards supporting "The Friends of The Grand Western Canal," a local charity dedicated to preserving and enhancing the canal’s natural beauty.
