The Stuc a' Chroin 5000 Hill Race is a premier "AL" (Category A, Long) fell and hill race held annually since 1989. Scheduled for Saturday, May 2, 2026, the event is centered in the village of Strathyre within the Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park. The "5000" in its title refers to the approximate total vertical ascent in feet, marking it as a significant early-season test for mountain runners in the United Kingdom.

The geography of the course is exceptionally technical and demanding, traversing the rugged peaks of Ben Each and Stuc a’ Chroin. The terrain features steep climbs, rapid descents, and often pathless mountain ground that requires competent navigation and hill-running experience. In early May, the Scottish Highlands can present harsh conditions; while spring may be emerging in the glens, the summits often retain snow patches and are susceptible to freezing temperatures, gale-force winds, and low visibility. Category A races imply a minimum of 50 meters of climb per kilometer and high technical difficulty, making this event a serious undertaking.
Logistically, the race is managed via the SiEntries system, with entries opening in late February. The race hub at the Strathyre Recreation Area provides the base for the start and finish, and participants must be at least 18 years of age on race day. Prizegiving is extensive, covering categories from Under-23 up to Veteran 80 for both men and women. Reflecting its deep community roots and traditional Scottish heritage, the event concludes with a post-race celebration featuring an on-site bar and a free ceilidh in the evening, cementing its reputation as one of the most popular and festive long-distance hill races in the Scottish calendar.
