Star City San Bruno Mountain Half Marathon

Experience the breathtaking beauty of San Bruno Mountain with the 8th Annual Star City Half Marathon on Saturday, October 3, 2026! Organized by the Excelsior Running Club, this trail race offers stunning views of the Pacific Ocean, San Francisco Bay, and the city skyline. The half marathon route is 93% off-road, featuring a challenging climb with over 2,400 feet of elevation gain and an exhilarating single-track downhill section.
Participants will receive a finisher's medal and meal after crossing the line by 1 PM. Early registration before September 21 ensures you’ll also get a commemorative t-shirt (while supplies last). The race proceeds support local community organizations, making your participation meaningful beyond just the run itself.
In addition to the half marathon, there’s a scenic 5K option that mostly follows trails, though it does not include a post-race shirt. Both races start at Sports Basement Stonestown: the half marathon kicks off at 9 AM and the 5K begins shortly after at 9:15 AM.
The course is peppered with three aid stations manned by enthusiastic volunteers who will provide water, sports drinks, and energy gels along the way—mile markers are located at 3.2 miles, 7.2 miles, and 9.9 miles for easy navigation. As a cupless race, runners should bring their own reusable bottles to reduce waste.
Bib pickup is available on Friday, October 2 from 4 PM to 6 PM at Sports Basement Stonestown (3251 20th Avenue Suite 390, San Francisco, CA 94132). Race day bib collection starts earlier, from 7:30 AM. All participants must sign a "Habitat Awareness" document confirming their commitment to responsible trail running practices.
