SROC Autumn Series 1 Williamson Park

About the Event

Orienteering enthusiasts are invited to explore the mature urban park of Wyresdale on September 20, 2026. This picturesque venue offers an array of paths and contour features that will challenge even the most experienced orienteers while providing a welcoming environment for beginners.
Participants can choose from three distinct courses tailored to different skill levels:
- Easy (Yellow): A 1.7 km route designed for juniors with some map reading experience or family groups looking to enjoy the park together.

- Hard (Green): For seasoned orienteers, this physically and technically demanding course covers a distance of 3.4 km.
- Score: This beginner-friendly option allows participants to navigate around their choice of controls within a time limit of 60 minutes to maximize points earned for each control visited.
The event will take place between midday and early afternoon on September 20, with starts scheduled from 12:30 PM onwards until 1:30 PM. Course finishes are set at 3:00 PM sharp, after which controls will be removed to ensure the safety of all participants.
Participants should note that pre-entries are preferred and can be made online up to 9 pm on September 19th. Entry fees vary based on membership status: £8 for non-member adults, £7 for member adults, and £4 each for juniors (under 21) or students in pairs or small groups. Newcomers without an orienteering dibber are encouraged to indicate this during the entry process so they can borrow one if needed.
The terrain is mapped on waterproof paper, ensuring that participants have a clear view of their surroundings even under wet conditions. The park's mature trees and varied paths provide both scenic beauty and navigational challenges for all levels of orienteers.
First aid kits will be available at the download area near registration in case they are needed. Additionally, toilets can be found close to the Ashton Memorial within the heart of the park.
For those traveling from out-of-town areas, follow brown tourist signs leading to the main car park on Wyresdale Road where pay and display parking is provided. The start, finish, and download locations will all be in proximity to this parking area for ease of access.
Participants are reminded that while the event does not provide real-time results during its duration, these can be accessed online at www.sroc.org later in the evening after conclusion.
Safety remains a priority throughout the day; participants should exercise caution when navigating paths and watch out for slow-moving vehicles near car parks. The park's popularity with dog walkers and families means runners must give plenty of space to others while maintaining their pace through slippery sections during wet conditions.
For any questions or assistance, newcomers are encouraged to contact Martyn Roome at [email protected] prior to the event date. General inquiries can be directed to Jon Green via his email address provided above.
Join us for a day filled with adventure and camaraderie as we explore the scenic paths of Wyresdale Park through the engaging sport of orienteering!
