South Downs Way 50km®

The SDW50km, now entering its second year as part of the prestigious World Trail Majors - Short Series, invites runners to explore the breathtaking South Downs National Park. This 50-kilometer non-stop race begins just outside Winchester, a historic city steeped in Saxon history, and winds through the natural amphitheater at Matterley Bowl.
The course follows the chalk ridgeway of the South Downs Way National Trail, offering panoramic views across Southern England's rolling hills, ancient forts, and picturesque villages. Runners will traverse expansive landscapes that stretch north over the Weald and south towards the coast and the English Channel.
As participants make their way through this scenic terrain, they'll be supported by four well-stocked aid stations, ensuring access to necessary supplies throughout the race. Full medical support is also provided along the route for added peace of mind. The event concludes at Queen Elizabeth Country Park, where runners will finish with a thrilling descent off Butser Hill.
With a nine-hour cutoff time and comprehensive course marking, this challenging yet rewarding experience promises an unforgettable journey through one of England's most beautiful natural parks.
