Soapstone Mountain Trail Races

The Soapstone Mountain Trail Races are scheduled for Sunday, May 17, 2026, in Stafford Springs, Connecticut. Organized by the Shenipsit Striders, the event marks the debut of an all-new Half Marathon course alongside the traditional Jerry Stage 6K "Sampler." Both races take place within the scenic Shenipsit State Forest, with the Half Marathon featuring a double ascent of Soapstone Mountain and its iconic fire tower.

The Half Marathon follows the blue-blazed Shenipsit Trail, featuring two well-stocked aid stations at the Parker Road and Hopkins Road crossings. The 6K "Sampler" offers a shorter loop through thick forest and dirt roads, designed to honor long-time race director Jerry Stage. As part of the Blue Blazed Trail Running Series, the event supports the Connecticut Forest & Park Association (CFPA).

Stafford Springs is a village within the town of Stafford, located in Tolland County. The town has a population of approximately 11,500 residents. The region is characterized by its heavy forest cover and rugged terrain, which served as a historic center for the woolen and textile mill industries during the 19th century.
