Smoky Mountain 24 Hour Challenge

About the Event

The Smoky Mountain 24 Hour Challenge returns to Sevierville, Tennessee on October 17th, offering runners a unique endurance event in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains. Participants gather at 1005 Park Road for an all-day race that transforms into a community celebration by sunset.

Start: 09:00:00  •  Fee: $150.00
On race morning, expect clear views and crisp air as temperatures hover around 16 degrees Celsius with slight winds and high humidity. The park road will be closed off from construction but remains accessible through alternative trails within the vicinity, ensuring runners have plenty of space to loop without distractions or obstructions. Runners can anticipate a firm yet slightly soft trail surface that accommodates various foot strikes while offering some give for long hours on their feet.
Founded in 2023 by Yeti Trail Runners and East Coast Adventures, this event has quickly become an annual tradition with growing participation each year. The Smoky Mountain 24 Hour Challenge aims to support local trail running communities through camaraderie and shared endurance challenges. Notably, reaching the milestone of 80 miles earns runners a special Dolly-themed belt buckle, celebrating both their achievement and Sevierville’s cultural heritage.
Runners have two options: the full 24-hour challenge with an $250 registration fee or the more manageable "9 to 5" option for those who wish to tackle daytime hours only. Both routes cover a consistent 3-mile loop through scenic park trails, providing ample opportunities for support from fellow runners and volunteers.
Registration is open at https://ultrasignup.com/register.aspx?did=137067 with varying deadlines based on the chosen challenge. Bib pickup will be available at Race Headquarters located near the start line address of 1005 Park Road, Sevierville, TN from October 14th to October 17th for all participants.
Runners should prepare for a full day ahead by checking the weather forecast leading up to race day and ensuring they have adequate hydration, nutrition, and gear for both daylight hours and nighttime running conditions. With temperatures ranging between 10 and 23 degrees Celsius during typical late-October days in Sevierville, runners can expect mild but variable racing conditions.
The Smoky Mountain 24 Hour Challenge in Sevierville, Tennessee on October 17th is a must for trail runners seeking an endurance-focused community event within the scenic backdrop of the Great Smoky Mountains.

About Sevierville

Learn more about the host city, Sevierville.

Scenic view of

Sevierville is a city in eastern Tennessee. Pronounced "Severe-ville" and named after Colonel John Sevier after his successful campaign in running off the Cherokee inhabitants around 1780, Sevierville was surprisingly anti-secessionist and abolitionist up to and during the Civil War but ended up being pillaged quite badly. Nowadays it is a tourist mecca for those en route to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park or paying homage to Dolly Parton's hometown, or one of the many other attractions.
