SMCSO - Law Enforcement Torch Run/Ruck

The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office Run/Ruck is an inspiring challenge dedicated to supporting Special Olympics Maryland, celebrating the spirit of athletes who continually push their limits every day. This unique event offers two distinct experiences: a timed 5K run and a team-based ruck.
For those seeking individual recognition, the 5K Run presents an opportunity for runners to showcase their speed and endurance in a chip-timed race. The top three finishers in each age and gender category will earn bragging rights among participants.
The Ruck event is designed as a testament to strength, discipline, and teamwork. Teams of four individuals must complete the course together, carrying weighted backpacks that represent different challenges. Female team members carry 40-pound rucksacks while males carry 55 pounds each throughout the entire route without jogging or running. The race includes three strategic challenges near the finish line where participants can briefly set down their packs but must pick them up to proceed.
Registration for this event, which is open until August 31, 2026, at noon, requires a payment of fees per person and ensures each team member receives a personalized shirt along with one timed bib. Teams are encouraged to weigh in both before and after the race to ensure compliance with weight requirements.
