About the Event

Sea To Sound is a 70 mile, three-day, multi-modal group ride spanning the entire length of the Olympic Discovery Trail. It is also a fundraising opportunity for Ian's Ride, a 501c3 non profit in the State Of Washington.  The Olympic Peninsula is the farthest northwest expanse of land one can explore along the US coast. In fact, the Rails to Trail Conservancy recently decided to add the ODT to the Great American Rail-Trail – making a route from Washington, DC to the Pacific Ocean here in Washington State. Over 3700 miles! For our event, we will offer aid stations and support along the entire route.  Wheelchair users are strongly encouraged!  We will support you. Just tell us what you will need.

To accommodate everyone, we are offering a virtual option. This means, you can join along with us, at your own pace, from your own neighborhood. Upload your miles here, follow along to see where you are on our route, and most importantly, Get Outside!  The virtual option has until 12/31 for completion.

Day 1: Friday, Aug 22nd
Day 1 is 20 miles. It begins on the west side of Lake Crescent, at the Camp Creek Trailhead, 36.3 miles west of Port Angeles on Hwy 101, South of Hwy 101 on Cooper Ranch Rd. We encourage folks to park at the Spruce Railroad trailhead and shuttle to the Camp Creek trailhead. This section of the trail is stunning, smooth, and remote with big trees and peekaboo views of Lake Crescent. The final few miles are on the recently completed Spruce Railroad section of the trail. It has a beautifully smooth surface and travels right along the edge of Lake Crescent. View maps and get the most up-to-date, detailed information from our website.

Day 2: Saturday, Aug 23rd
Day 2 is 27 miles. It begins west of Port Angeles, at the end of Crown Z Water Road at the spectacular Elwha River suspension bridge. The trail crosses the Elwha River. Long a source of hydropower and water for mills, the Elwha dams were removed in September 2011, and the largest river flowing out of the Olympics returned in hopes salmon would eventually repopulate this valley. Although there are some hilly spots, the route is almost entirely paved. There are several excellent access points to join or exit the group ride. Many will be joining us in wheelchairs. We will finish the day at Carrie Blake Park in Sequim. We offer aid stations along the way and transportation assistance when needed. View maps and detailed information on our website.

Day 3: Sunday, Aug 24th
Day 3 is 21 miles. It begins at Carrie Blake Park in Sequim. The majority of the day is paved. This year we will NOT ride along Highway 101. Our shuttles will move you from Gardiner to the four corner trailhead of the Larry Scott Trail portion of the ODT. Although not paved, this is a smooth and beautiful trail. Many will be joining us in wheelchairs. We offer aid stations along the way and transportation assistance when needed. View maps and more detailed information on our website.

Sea to Sound Scholarships
We recognize one of the biggest challenges for our disabled riders to join is the expense, particularly lodging. We’ve been fortunate to receive generous grants and donations targeted for scholarships that will cover lodging and registration costs. Unfortunately, we are only able to offer these opportunities to folks with disabilities, particularly mobility impairments. If this is something you’re interested in, please fill out our online application and we'll be getting in touch. Hope to see you there!

Virtual Participants
To accommodate everyone, we are offering a virtual option. This means, you can join along with us, at your own pace, from your own neighborhood. Upload your miles here, follow along to see where you are on our route, and most importantly, Get Outside!  The virtual option has until 12/31 for completion.
Register now as a solo participant or as a team of 2+ participants (your team will work together to complete the mileage goal for your challenge) and start running, walking, wheeling or biking to complete your Sea To Sound goals!  If funding is an issue, please contact us for possible scholarship opportunities.
Please do not run on unsafe roads, or areas that have been closed to the public.

About Port Angeles

Scenic view of

Port Angeles is the largest city on the Olympic Peninsula of Washington, and the county seat of Clallam County. It's a great place to start for a trip to Hurricane Ridge and the rest of Olympic National Park. Outdoor sports like kayaking, biking or hiking are very popular, while the quaint shops attract shoppers downtown and the expansive waterfront provides relaxation. Beautiful Pacific beaches are nearby and the lavender fields and berry farms of Sequim beckon all summer.
