Screaming Monkey - A Wild Race around a Chimpanzee Sanctuary

NOTICE: REGISTRATIONS ON OR AFTER 10/28/25 MAY NOT RECEIVE A SHIRT! The 8th annual Screaming Monkey will kick off at Eddie D. Jones Park in Keithville, Louisiana on the 7th of November 2026. Eddie D. Jones is unofficially known as The Monkey Trails due to its proximity to a National Chimpanzee Sanctuary. Runners will hear the nearby primates during many sections of the trail as the course encapsulates the sanctuary. Monkey Trails is a Top 10 Mountain Bike destination in Louisiana and is large enough to support sizeable loops; runners will have the option of a 10K,25K, 50K, 100K or a 100 miler. The course itself will feature miles and miles of undulating, technical single track, and select equestrian/utv trails. During the day you will also be serenaded by the bells from the Veterans Cemetery at the park entrance. The trail terrain varies from technical forest track to pine-straw-covered, rolling red-clay hills. There is even a ravine section that will make you wonder if you're still in Louisiana. All 25K+ distance participants will enjoy a quality 15.5-mile technical loop trail. Each loop has about 1050 feet of elevation gain and loss.

Schedule

***WChimp Haven tour back again this year!*** Chimp Haven Tour begins at 1 pm on Friday, Nov 6th and will last 2-3 hours and be limited to 25 participants. $75 of tour cost is refundable if canceled due to weather. 11/07/26 Races will begin between 8:00 and 8:30AM. CUTOFF Times: 50K and less will be 12hrs. 100k will be 24hrs but you must be on course for the 3rd lap in 12 and 4th/last lap by 17hrs. 100 Miler will be 34hr total cutoff. Loop 3 must start by hour 17:30 . Loop 4 must start by hour 23, Loop 5 by hour 28. PACERS: Pacers will be allowed but MUST register as pacer and sign waiver to be on course. They will be allowed after 2 laps have been completed. Awards will be given at 9:45 am (10K), Noon (25k), 3 pm (50K) and 100K/100mi TBD

Distance options

We are bringing back the 100 miler this year! Course distances will be a 8k, 25k, 50k, 100k, and 100 miler. Each distance will receive a medal plus something additional to signify the distance for the 50k and farther. The 100k and 100 miler will receive a custom buckle as tradition.

Course Details

The course itself is a 15.5 MILE LOOP ; it's about 75% single-track trails, 12% wide rolling hill equestrian trails, and less than 11% small gravel and 2% road. The soil is a moderately packed surface generously mixed with roots, rocks, and some water depending on the weather. This course has about 1100 ft. of elevation per 15.5 mile loop. It's a up and down, in an out course with varied terrain. It's tough but fair! This course is a beast but at the same time, it's FUN! If you are up for a challenge and you want a good race at a good venue at a great price....surrounded by great people then this is the event you want to attend. Pacers are on a by permission basis and require RD consent. We allow drop bags and they will be at the aid station you pass at mile 9, and mile 14.

There is an aid station at the start/finish area you will access at the end of each loop, and 2 aid stations on-course (one of which will be accessed twice). Camping & Accomodations

There are many Hotels convenient to the race site. Enter the zip code 71106 to find hotels on the South Side of Shreveport. Also, FREE camping is available at the race site within the park. We ask that you have fires in pits and clean up after yourself. This is a perk only available on race weekend. Also, some RV pads are available but boondocking rules apply. Please contact the RD if you would like to RV camp by 11/01/26.

SWAG

Expect great swag. Each race distance will provide something extra that the previous distance does not. We will announce specifics as we get closer to the race but just know, we plan to make it worth it. As tradition, expect a buckle for all distances 50k+
