Sam's Last Stand

Embark on a monumental, self-supported journey across the entire length of Texas's longest hiking trail in a true test of endurance and spirit at Sam's Last Stand on 28th February 2026. This fatass-style ultra-marathon challenges 25 selected runners to traverse the full 96-mile Lone Star Hiking Trail through the towering pines and serene creeks of Sam Houston National Forest, with a generous 36-hour cutoff to reach the eastern terminus. Organized by Ava's Trails with a minimalist, community-focused ethos, the event provides only cached water and drop bag support, placing the onus on runners for navigation, self-sufficiency, and respect for the pristine wilderness.

The adventure begins with a pre-dawn shuttle and a 6:00 AM start from Trailhead 1, weaving through 15 designated waypoints where runners can access supplies and crew support under strict Leave No Trace principles. With a small entry fee that includes a commemorative LSHT patch and supports the trail club, this race is designed for experienced ultrarunners seeking a pure, challenging, and unforgettable point-to-point adventure.
