Running with my Gnomies

Running with my Gnomies is a whimsical yet rigorous trail event held at the historic Camp Tuscazoar in Dover, Ohio. Scheduled for Saturday, May 9, 2026, the race is part of the Tuscazoar Series, which includes the Tuscazoar Raw and the Tuscazoar Endurance Race. The event is well-known for its technical single-track paths and the unique challenge of spotting hidden gnomes tucked away in the forest as you navigate the hills of Tuscarawas County.

The event offers three distinct distances. The primary 25k loop serves as the foundation for the race, incorporating a mix of single-track trails, bridal paths, and short sections of gravel access road.

The geography of Camp Tuscazoar features steep, rolling hills that present a significant challenge for runners seeking a technical trail experience. In early May, the Dover region typically sees cool morning temperatures around 9°C (48°F), warming to approximately 22°C (72°F) by midday. This race is strictly cupless; participants are required to carry their own hydration vests, handheld bottles, or collapsible cups for use at the well-stocked aid stations located at miles 5 and 10. A generous 10-hour cutoff time is provided, catering to both competitive athletes and those looking for a unique hiking experience.

Logistically, the event is centralized at the camp, which offers diverse accommodations including RV sites, cabins, and bunkhouses. Packet pickup is held on Friday, May 8, from 5:00 PM to 7:30 PM, and on race morning starting at 6:30 AM. Finisher medals and age-group awards are distinctive, featuring handmade gnomes crafted by camp board members. For those pursuing the Tuscazoar Series, registering for all three events at once provides a 15% discount. Spectators can enjoy a fire pit and music at the start/finish area or drive to the south parking lot (near mile 4) to catch a glimpse of the participants in action.
