Running Down Recidivism

About the Event

Running Down Recidivism returns to Chattanooga, Tennessee on September 19th, 2026. Lace up for family fun, fitness, music, food, vendors, and prizes! This event combines the thrill of a five-kilometer race with community spirit.
The run starts at McCallie School's main field in Southside, just off Kingston Pike near downtown Chattanooga. The park is bustling with trees lining the streets and surrounded by lush greenery, creating an inviting atmosphere even on cool mornings like those expected for this fall event. Expect a mix of paved paths and trails that loop through the neighborhood, offering scenic views while keeping runners safe.
Since 2014, Running Down Recidivism has grown from a small community gathering to one of Chattanooga's most anticipated events each year, hosting over two hundred participants who contribute significantly to local charities supporting reentry programs for former inmates. This race is more than just running; it’s about giving back and fostering unity within the Chattanooga community.
The course begins at McCallie School where runners will be greeted by volunteers and a band playing upbeat tunes. The route weaves through residential streets, passing landmarks such as the Tennessee Aquarium before looping around Raccoon Mountain Park for an invigorating finish back to the starting line. With hard and dry trail conditions expected given current forecasts, participants can focus on their pace without worrying about slippery surfaces.
On race morning, anticipate a comfortable temperature range between 18°C and 28°C with a humidity level of around 70%, making for pleasant running weather. The average wind speed is six miles per hour, which will feel like a gentle breeze most likely from the east or southeast. Precipitation risk is minimal at just three millimeters expected throughout race day.
The Running Down Recidivism offers both a 5k run/walk and Kids K events for younger runners.
