This unique race offers participants an exhilarating journey across a public use airport’s runway and through Wax Park. The event kicks off with packet pickup on race day starting at 7am, allowing ample time for runners to prepare before the main event begins at 9:00 AM sharp. The scenic route takes competitors down the entire length of Moraine Airpark's runway, across portions of the taxiway, and through Wax Park’s lush greenery. Runners will also navigate a short stretch in the neighborhood adjacent to the airport, adding variety to their experience. Registration for this event costs $35 per person and includes an official race shirt if you sign up by October 7th. Race awards are yet to be announced but are sure to celebrate both speed and spirit among participants. Moraine Airpark is more than just a venue; it’s a vibrant community hub with active groups such as EAA Chapter 48 and Dayton Aviation Services flight school contributing to its lively atmosphere year-round. A moraine is any accumulation of unconsolidated debris, sometimes referred to as glacial till, that occurs in both currently and formerly glaciated regions and that has been previously carried along by a glacier or ice sheet. It may consist of partly rounded particles ranging in size from boulders down to gravel and sand, in a groundmass of finely divided clayey material sometimes called glacial flour. Lateral moraines are those formed at the side of the ice flow, and terminal moraines are those formed at the foot, marking the maximum advance of the glacier. Other types include ground moraines and medial moraines.
