Run for Wes

Join Morgantown Running on Sunday, October 4th, 2026, for a heartfelt and inspiring 5K race along the scenic rail trail. This out-and-back course offers runners a straightforward yet rewarding experience as they navigate through beautiful scenery.
The race begins at 2:00 PM with participants heading towards Core Arboretum on the paved trail for approximately 1.5 miles before turning back to the finish line. The simple and flat terrain makes it an ideal run, suitable for all skill levels looking for a quick yet engaging route.
Proceeds from this event will benefit Wes Nugent's family, who are navigating life after a tragic bicycling accident on February 9, 2024, which left him as a quadriplegic. The funds raised through the race and donations will help cover essential expenses such as meals and bills during their challenging time.
Participants can register online or in-store at Morgantown Running's shop with cash or check only. For those unable to attend but still wish to contribute, there is an option to donate directly via PayPal (note that this link does not register you for the race).
The first 50 registered runners will receive a commemorative t-shirt, and kids are included in this special offer as well. Additionally, awards will be given to the top three male and female finishers.
Race day packet pick-up is available from noon until two hours before the start of the event at the Seneca Center parking lot. Please note that you can park there but avoid using spaces reserved for residents under the Seneca Village Apartments garage.
This 5K not only provides a scenic run through Morgantown's beautiful rail trail but also serves as an opportunity to support a local family in need, making it a meaningful event for both runners and community members alike.
