The Run for Calgary is an annual community-driven initiative organized by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, aimed at raising funds and awareness for non-profit organizations within Calgary. Since its inception in 2010, this vibrant event has attracted serious runners and casual walkers alike from all corners of the city. Each year, participants gather with their families to enjoy a day filled with festivities and camaraderie. The Run for Calgary has made significant contributions to various causes over the years. In 2010 and 2011, it raised $25,000 for the Genesis Centre of Community Wellness. Since partnering with the Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation in 2012, the event has generated more than $150,000 to support critical initiatives at the hospital. In recent years, the Run for Calgary has also provided substantial funding—over $35,000—to Canadian Blood Services. The race takes place on St. Patrick's Island Park in downtown Calgary and features a 10K run alongside a more relaxed 3K walk option to cater to all levels of participants. The event is not only about the physical challenge but also serves as an opportunity for community engagement, with opening ceremonies starting at 10:30 AM MST on September 20, 2026. Joining forces with similar initiatives across Canada, such as the Run for Bradford and the Run for Vaughan, which have collectively raised millions of dollars for healthcare projects, The Run for Calgary continues to uphold a tradition of community service and support. This year's event promises an engaging atmosphere filled with activities that celebrate both athletic achievement and charitable giving. Participants can look forward to enjoying the scenic trails of St. Patrick’s Island Park while contributing positively to their local communities.
