SC 29560 Join us for Run for a Purpose – ALS Awareness, Education and Fitness Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), often called Lou Gehrig’s disease, is a progressive neurological disease that affects the nerve cells responsible for controlling voluntary muscles. As ALS progresses, it can make everyday activities such as walking, speaking, eating, and breathing increasingly difficult, while a person’s ability to think and understand is often preserved. Although there is currently no cure, ongoing research continues to improve treatment, care, and understanding of the disease. Raising awareness about ALS is important because it helps educate communities, support individuals and families affected by the disease, encourage compassion, and strengthen efforts toward finding more effective treatments and, ultimately, a cure. A community event designed to promote the importance of ALS Awareness, education, physical fitness, health living, and community involvement. Awards will be given to the top 2 finishers in the following age categories... 0-9 10-19 20-29 30-39 40-49 50-59 60-69 70 & above. Also the top two overall for male and female.
