Wingfield Park offers a picturesque setting for runners as they start their journey through the park's trails, known for their scenic beauty and challenging terrain. The atmosphere is vibrant and lively, thanks to custom commemorative swag, delicious cake, and a post-race party that has become an integral part of this event since its inception in 2014.
Over eleven years, the Grindstone Trail Runs have grown from supporting local initiatives into a significant community fundraiser. Proceeds benefit All-Season Adaptive Sports, enriching lives through snow sports and recreation for individuals with disabilities. This year’s race will see over $60,000 donated to this vital program.
The course venue is Wingfield Park in Midtown Ruidoso at an elevation of 6900 feet. The Half Marathon Heavy (13.8 miles), 8.5 Miler, and the 4-Miler all start here with unique features along their routes. Notable terrain includes hills that challenge both seasoned runners and newcomers alike.
Starting times are staggered to ensure a smooth flow: the Half Marathon Heavy kicks off at 7 AM, followed by the 8.5 Miler at 7:15 AM, then the 4-Miler at 7:30 AM, with the Kids Dash starting at 7:40 AM. The course layout includes chip timing to ensure accurate results.
Race conditions predict temperatures ranging from a minimum of 15°C to a maximum of 27°C on race morning. With typical winds at around 6.7 mph and humidity levels hovering at about 55%, the weather will feel comfortably cool, making for ideal racing conditions. To register, visit the following URL: https://raceroster.com/events/2026/92748/ruidoso-grindstone-trail-runs.
Race day packet pick-up is available from August 23 at Wingfield Park from 3 PM to 6:30 PM. On race morning, packets can be picked up between 6 AM and 6:45 AM under the pavilion next to the Ruidoso Athletic Club (RAC). A race day briefing will take place at 6:50 AM.
Participants should bring their ID for age verification if needed. The Half Marathon Heavy race commences sharp at 7 AM, followed by the 8.5 Miler and then the 4-Miler respectively.
The Ruidoso Grindstone Trail Runs is a must-attend event because it offers not only scenic trails but also an opportunity to support local charities that make such programs possible.
