Rock The Ridge 50-Mile Endurance Challenge

Rock The Ridge is a premier 50-mile endurance challenge and major fundraiser scheduled for Saturday, May 2, 2026, at the Mohonk Preserve in New York’s Hudson Valley. Celebrating its 13th year, the event supports the protection of the northern Shawangunk Ridge. Participants can choose between a full 50-mile ultra-marathon, a 26.2-mile trail marathon, or a relay format with teams of two to four people. The event is renowned for its accessibility, offering a generous 18-hour cutoff and a course set on well-maintained carriage roads rather than technical single-track trails.

The geography of the Shawangunk Mountains—affectionately known as "The Gunks"—is world-famous for its dramatic white quartz cliffs and ridge vistas. The course traverses the largest member-supported nature preserve in New York State, spanning over 8,200 acres. Runners wind through lush forests, open fields, and along streams via a network of historic carriage roads. The wide, stable surface of the carriage roads makes this an ideal entry-point for hikers and runners transitioning into ultra-distances, as it lacks the technical footing usually associated with mountain trail races.
