Immerse yourself in the serene beauty of Riverbend Park at Picnic Island for the annual Riverbend Ultras, featuring races that cater to all levels of runners. The centerpiece is the 12-hour endurance challenge and the grueling 50K race, both offering a unique experience through scenic trails along the tranquil Loxahatchee River. The event kicks off with a gentle introduction for those looking for a shorter distance: a fun run that loops around Picnic Island without tracking times or awarding prizes. Participants in this casual segment will enjoy an unhurried pace and picturesque views, all while supporting local conservation efforts through their entry fees. For the more ambitious runners, the 50K course combines two laps of the scenic Picnic Island loop followed by nine circuits around Riverbend Park’s peaceful trails. This challenging route winds past dense oak forests and cabbage palms, offering glimpses of wildlife like deer, turkeys, turtles, raccoons, and a variety of birds along the way. The 12-hour event offers flexibility for runners to complete as many laps of the 3.25-mile Riverbend loop as they can manage within the timeframe. After dusk falls at around 6 PM, participants switch to running on Picnic Island's illuminated path until their allotted time is up. Both these races culminate in a sense of community and camaraderie among runners. Awards are given for first-place male and female finishers in each category, along with medals and shirts for all competitors who complete the 50K or participate in the 12-hour event. The fun run participants also receive medals upon completion, while t-shirts can be purchased as an add-on to their registration. The Riverbend Ultras is a self-supported race where runners bring their own supplies but are encouraged to share snacks and treats with fellow competitors throughout the day. There’s ample space for setting up tents or coolers near the start/finish area at the River Pavilion, ensuring participants have everything they need for an enjoyable experience. This event supports local conservation efforts through its proceeds going directly to benefit the Florida Trail Association chapter. While registration fees are non-refundable, any participant unable to attend can defer their entry to the following year or donate it back to the cause if they choose not to return. Join us at Riverbend Ultras for a day filled with breathtaking scenery and memorable moments among nature enthusiasts who share a passion for running and preserving natural beauty.
