The River Hawk Races are scheduled for Saturday, April 18, 2026, in Mount Holly, NC. Reimagined by the Mount Holly Community Development Foundation, this event replaces the traditional Mount Holly 5K/10K with a new focus on the city's connection to the Catawba River. The courses utilize the scenic Mount Holly Greenway, following the river's flow and celebrating local nature. This revitalization effort aligns with broader environmental and health goals; notably, the Catawba River basin supports over 2 million people, and its preservation is a key focus for local development foundations in the Gaston County area.
| Race Category | Distance | Start Time | Course Feature |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tailrace 10K | 10 km | 9:00 AM EDT | Catawba River Greenway |
| Greenway 5K | 5 km | 9:15 AM EDT | Catawba River Greenway |

Participation and Logistics
The event is headquartered at 420 East Central Avenue. The 10K begins first at 9:00 AM, followed shortly by the 5K at 9:15 AM, and concluding with the youth-focused Tadpole Dash. Registration for the 5K and 10K includes a commemorative T-shirt featuring the new River Hawk design. There is a strict no-refund policy unless participants have enrolled in the specific Refund Protection Program, though race transfers are permitted. Currently, 66 participants are registered to "fly across the finish line" along the river currents.
Awards and Recognition
The awards ceremony will recognize the top three overall male and female participants in the 5K and 10K. In addition, awards will be presented to the top three male and female runners in a wide range of age divisions, beginning at 14 & under and extending to the 70 & over category in five-year increments. This structure encourages competitive participation across all demographics in the Mount Holly community.
Registration and Fees
Regular registration pricing is currently active at $44.79 for the 10K, $39.44 for the 5K, and $34.09 for the Kids Tadpole Dash (all fees included). These prices remain in effect until race day, April 18th, when a final late registration fee increase will be applied. For those interested in supporting the foundation's work in community development or with questions about the greenway path, the Mount Holly Community Development Foundation can be contacted at 704-368-2495.
