Ride for the Troops

About the Event

Ride for the Troops returns to Andover, Massachusetts on August 23rd, supporting our veterans through a fun-filled weekend of bike riding and camaraderie. The event kicks off with rides from Friday night into Saturday morning, centered around Pomps Pond at 147 Abbot St., Andover, MA. Participants can choose between a full two-day experience or join for Sunday's ride only.
Race morning finds participants gathering in the cool early August air of Andover. The setting is serene and familiar, with the quiet streets of Essex County providing a tranquil backdrop to the event. As cyclists gather at 6:30 AM, they are greeted by the promise of community spirit and shared purpose that defines this annual tradition.
This marks the eighth year for Ride for the Troops, which has grown in popularity over its history, now drawing participants from across Massachusetts who come together not just to ride but also to support our veterans. The event is organized by Run for the Troops and Soto Cycles, making it a significant local effort with substantial impact on the community.
The course venue offers diverse terrain through the streets of Essex County MA, ensuring a varied cycling experience. Marked signs guide participants along three different routes: 10 miles for recreational riders, 25 miles to American Legion Park in Georgetown, and an ambitious 60-mile route to Lazy J Ranch in Salisbury. Oak & Iron will be on hand with post-ride refreshments.
The start and finish are at Pomps Pond, a central location that sets the stage for both Saturday's activities and Sunday’s rides. Check-in begins promptly at 6:30 AM, followed by an opening ceremony at 7:00 AM before the ride commences at 7:30 AM. The weather on race day is expected to be mild with temperatures ranging from a minimum of 16.5°C to a maximum of 26.0°C, feeling similar due to low humidity and average wind speeds.
