About the Event

The Cherry Valley 20k Time Trial invites cyclists to experience an exhilarating race through the tranquil landscapes of Deer Run Forest Preserve. Set for April 26th and August 30th, both starting at 9am, this out-and-back course offers a diverse range of terrain that challenges even the most seasoned riders.
The journey begins with a southern trek along Fairdale Rd./East Line Rd., covering five and a half miles before turning around to head back. Course marshals are strategically placed throughout the route to assist participants in navigating safely through marked turnarounds, ensuring an engaging experience for all competitors.
Cyclists can choose from multiple categories: Cat 1-2 and Cat 3 for men; women compete in Cat 1-2 and Cat 3 divisions, with separate classes available for juniors under the age of 18. Registration is open until August 29th, offering pre-race discounts online at $30 before the deadline, increasing to $40 on race day.
Participants must be ABR (American Bicycle Racing) members; annual memberships cost $30 for adults and $15 for juniors, with a one-day pass available for $10. For those entering both events, an additional fee of $10 applies when registering for the second event. Online registration closes on August 29th at Deer Run Forest Preserve's rear picnic area from 8am onwards.
Detailed directions guide cyclists to Cherry Valley, located southeast of Rockford. From Chicago or Madison, follow Interstate 90 (toll) or I-39 to Highway 20 and proceed through Mill Rd., E State Rd., Walnut St., Genoa St., and finally onto River Rd. leading directly to Deer Run Forest Preserve.
Race day amenities include pit toilets at the preserve's parking lot, with race numbers distributed upon arrival. Clear start/finish lines marked by arrows ensure a smooth countdown for participants, while accurate timing equipment captures every moment of your performance.
