Ranger Ultras PB230km Trail Challenge

The Ranger Ultras PB230km Trail Challenge is a rigorous multi-day ultra-endurance event taking place from Thursday, April 16 to Sunday, April 19, 2026. Following the Pennine Bridleway, this 230 km (143 mile) journey traverses the heart of northern England, crossing the Peak District, West Yorkshire, the North Yorkshire Moors, and finishing in Cumbria. With a total ascent of 6,162 meters, the race is designed for experienced trail runners and fast-packers who can maintain a steady pace to meet the 75-hour cut-off.

The Pennine Bridleway regions have varied demographics; for instance, the High Peak area has a population of approximately 91,000 residents, while the finish in Eden (Cumbria) is more sparsely populated with roughly 55,000 residents. The route is overwhelmingly rural, characterized by gritstone moors and limestone dales. The median annual household income across these northern districts averages around £32,000. Geographically, the trail avoids urban centers to focus on upland scenery, which can be exposed to volatile weather. In mid-April, average temperatures range from 4°C (39°F) to 12°C (54°F), but the high-ground sections are prone to significant wind chill, mist, and sleet.

Registration and kit checks are conducted on Wednesday evening at The Peak Centre in Edale. To support runners through the 75-hour endeavor, the organizer provides indoor checkpoints with hot meals, showers, and sleeping spaces. New entries for the 2026 edition officially closed on April 6, 2026, with the current field limited to a small, focused group of 24 participants. The event is self-navigational using GPX files, as no additional course signage is placed for environmental reasons.
