Rainbow Ridge 20k/50k

LET’S RUN IT BACK! YEAR 2 OF POSSIBLY THE MOST DIFFICULT 50K IN OREGON

Over 8,000 ft of climbing! This course is going to blow your mind. Full of big climbs through lush old growth forest. Expansive views from all over but the ones from the tops of Macduff mountain, Horsepasture mountain, and Kings Castle are really crown jewels. Sure to be a true pacific northwest classic race due to the epic terrain on top of old volcanic eruptions that have shaped our outdoor wonderland. Come out to fill your belly and fill your heart while you search your soul.

A portion of race proceeds will be donated to Bridgeway house. Bridgeway house is a school for kids with autism spectrum disorder. They also provide services for the families of those affected by asd and accompanying diagnosed neurodivergence throughout all of Lane county.

20k details

Start from the upper McKenzie community center. Runners will climb 2600ft to Kings castle summit for world class views of McKenzie River valley as well as high Cascade peaks! The way back is all downhill for a fast and super fun finish!

50k details

Take the shuttle about 16 minutes from upper McKenzie community center to Olallie North trailhead. We will have a gun start that begins with 6 miles the hard way! Climbing 3,400 feet! You’ll stop for snacks at mile 4.6 before scrambling up to the summit of Horsepasture Mountain (5,675ft). Return to aid 1 at mile 7 and stock up. You will be entering into the longest stretch without aid of around 8 miles that gains 1300ft. Don’t forget to hit your second summit at Macduff mountain (5,060ft) Especially if it’s a clear day! Next is a very fun and challenging descent with a nice mix of switchbacks and technical trails through wildly green forest down into O’Leary/Castle Rock trailhead at mile 18. Did anyone say quesadilla and potatoes? Don’t worry. You’ll be back after a 6 mile out and back down through creek drainage with 1,100 ft of gain. There will be a small aid station at the turnaround, and low point, East Fork trailhead. When you make your way back to O’Leary you won’t forget the quesadillas this time. Climb 1700 ft up to your final summit, Kings Castle. You’ll notice the change in trail as it goes from what has been a bit technical to softer and smoother until the final .75 of a mile for the rocky summit scramble. Pay attention coming down that rock before letting the legs free on one of the most fun trail descents around. You drop 2,700 ft in the final 6 miles so don’t miss your left turn onto Kings Castle trail! You cannot have another quesadilla. Your final aid is 4 miles and a trip through the covered bridge from the finish where you will be served pulled pork sandwiches with soup, beer, and other goodies inside the community center!

Drop bags

50k runners may have one drop bag. There will be a table inside for you to stage them at the community center prior to shuttles leaving. Drop bags will be delivered to O’Leary/Castle Rock aid station at mile 18.3 and 24.

50k shuttles

The shuttle ride is between 15-18 minutes. We will run two shuttles with the first leaving around 5:45am and the second around 6:25am. There will be a portapotty and some snacks with a fire burning at Olallie north trailhead start line.
