Prepare for a truly epic and unique coastal challenge at Race the Tide, set in the breathtaking private grounds of the Flete Estate in South Devon on Saturday, May 16, 2026. This event, now in its ninth year, offers three demanding trail distances that all share one thrilling, defining feature: the literal race against the rising tide at Wonwell Beach, adding a layer of natural urgency and adventure to your run. Choose your challenge: the formidable "Long Marathon" (approx. 29 miles) that traverses the iconic South West Coast Path, crosses a causeway to the tidal Burgh Island, and delivers relentless coastal climbs; the scenic "Long Half Marathon" (15 miles) combining woodland trails with dramatic estuary and cliff-top running; or the "Watery Woodland Trail" (8.5 miles) exploring the estate's beautiful, private forests and paths. The courses are a spectacular mix of cliff-top paths, secluded beaches, historic woodland, and rolling farmland, providing constantly changing and stunning views of the Devon coastline. With its private estate setting, genuine tidal challenge, and exceptionally scenic but tough routes, this event is a coveted fixture for experienced trail runners seeking an authentic and memorable adventure. Crossing the finish line high above the Mothecombe shoreline, with your bespoke finisher's medal in hand, provides a profound sense of accomplishment after a day spent truly racing with nature.
