The Race Against Hate 2026 returns to Evanston, Illinois on Sunday, June 21, bringing together runners and walkers for a meaningful day of community and remembrance at Floyd Long Field. This annual event has become a cornerstone in the city’s calendar, drawing participants from across the region who gather not just to run but to stand united against hate.
On race morning, as dawn breaks over Evanston's familiar skyline, the air is filled with anticipation. The early June chill gives way to a comfortable warmth by mid-morning, perfect for those setting out on their journey around the city’s scenic streets and parks. Floyd Long Field, nestled in the heart of the community, serves not only as the starting point but also as a symbol of unity and resilience. Participants make their way through quiet residential neighborhoods before hitting bustling commercial areas lined with shops and cafes that add to the vibrant atmosphere.
Over the years, the Race Against Hate has grown from a small local gathering into an event celebrated by thousands across multiple age groups. The race attracts runners who lace up in honor of those affected by hate crimes and injustices around the world. Awards are presented for various categories, including top male and female finishers, encouraging both competitive spirit and camaraderie among participants. Proceeds from the Race Against Hate support local charities that focus on promoting diversity, inclusion, and community healing.
The course itself is a blend of city streets and park paths, offering runners and walkers a mix of flat terrain with gentle inclines to challenge all levels of fitness. Starting at Floyd Long Field, participants follow a loop around Evanston’s central neighborhoods before circling back towards the finish line. Mile markers are clearly marked along the route, helping athletes pace themselves as they navigate through familiar streets and parks. Aid stations are strategically placed every two miles, providing water and snacks to keep everyone hydrated and energized throughout their run or walk.
Weather conditions on race day typically reflect a comfortable early summer morning in Illinois. Temperatures hover around 21 degrees Celsius with an average wind speed of about 13 kilometers per hour, creating a cool breeze that helps maintain comfort levels for active participants. Humidity usually sits at roughly 70%, adding just enough moisture to the air without feeling oppressive. With a chance of scattered showers in the afternoon and early evening hours, runners are advised to dress appropriately with layers they can shed as temperatures rise.
