About the Event
This is the slower version of the January 23 trial run, with longer breaks, on the Kumamoto Castle Marathon route. Runners meet at 9:00 in front of the conventional-line ticket gates at JR Kumamoto Station, and a warm-up and running lesson on form, uphill and downhill running and stretching follows at 9:05. The run starts and ends at Kumamoto Station, so some sections are not covered, and the route does not go to Kumamoto Castle this year. Finish options are Nishi-Kumamoto Station (11 km, around 12:00), Kawashiri Station (16 km, around 13:00), Nishi-Kumamoto Station again (27 km, around 15:00), the Yuracks public bath (31 km, around 16:00) and Kumamoto Station (34 km, around 17:00). Those finishing at intermediate stations disperse on their own, and anyone can drop out along the way. The pace is about 7 to 8 minutes per kilometer, with a convenience-store and toilet break roughly every 40 minutes. No aid or food is provided. Many people run alone. Entry closes when capacity is reached, and one transfer to another event is possible, but no refunds. There is no baggage storage. The run goes ahead in rain, but is cancelled in disaster-level conditions, with an email sent by 18:00 the day before. 100 yen from each entry is donated to the Noto Peninsula disaster area.
