About the Event

Celebrate a major milestone in Australian ocean swimming at the 40th annual Portsea Swim Classic, a spectacular open water festival held on Saturday, 17 January 2026, at the pristine Portsea Front Beach within Point Nepean National Park. This iconic event, hosted by the Portsea Surf Life Saving Club, offers a range of distances for all levels: the flagship 1.5km swim with age-group waves, a challenging 2.5km 'Gold' event, a 500m junior race, and team events for friends and families to compete together. Adding to the excitement is the RT Edgar Dash for Cash, a winner-take-all sprint with a $1,000 prize for registered competitors, capping off a day of elite competition and inclusive community participation.

With registration at Jarman Oval and the potential for up to 2,000 swimmers taking to the clear waters of Port Phillip Bay, the January 17th event is a cornerstone of the Victorian summer sports calendar. It’s more than a swim; it’s a vibrant, long-standing tradition that combines the thrill of open water racing with the stunning natural beauty of the Mornington Peninsula, creating an unforgettable experience for seasoned athletes and social swimmers alike.
