Old Jo's Firecracker 5K

The Old Jo's Firecracker 5K returns to St Jo in Texas on July 4th for its 18th year as a community tradition. This family-fun-filled race starts early morning when the air is still cool and comfortable, making it an ideal way to celebrate Independence Day.
Racers will start from Saint Jo Square, passing through historic neighborhoods before heading north into the countryside. The course offers a mix of paved roads and country paths that are hard and dry on this day. Runners will be greeted by the sights and sounds of small-town charm as they weave through familiar landmarks like Boggess Park.
This community event is organized annually by the Saint Jo Chamber of Commerce in partnership with Easy Street Animal Shelter, making it a significant part of local life. Over the years, thousands have participated, contributing to various charities and scholarships that support both runners and their communities.
The race course venue will be on the Gazebo at Saint Jo Square for check-in from 6:30 am onwards. The terrain is varied but manageable with its hard surface ensuring a smooth run despite the typical July heat in North Texas. Runners can expect an average temperature of around 29°C, which feels quite warm given the high humidity levels and UV index at Very High.

The registration fee is $39.73 for the adult version of this Firecracker 5K, with a reduced rate of $28.99 available for kids.
Bibs can be picked up on-site from 6:30 am at Saint Jo Square’s Gazebo on race day. Participants must bring their own identification to verify age requirements and ensure accurate timing during the event. First-timers should note that this is a chip timed, certified course running through some of St Jo's most picturesque locations.
