OLAT Clubreis GR5

On October 3, 2026, the OLAT club is organizing another exciting hiking trip along the renowned GR5 route. This scenic walk offers several distance options to cater to different fitness levels and preferences: 29.3 km, 24.6 km, 22.6 km, and a shorter option of 17.9 km.
The event takes place in the picturesque Ardennes region, known for its rolling hills and lush forests. Participants can expect significant elevation changes but will find this route less challenging than previous years' excursions through the area. The terrain is varied with stretches that wind through charming villages and along tranquil rivers like the Amblève near Stavelot.
The longest distance begins at Petit Thier, a small hamlet situated on a high plateau not far from Vielsalm. From there, hikers follow white-red markers to Mont-le-Soie before heading towards Logbiermé, an isolated village deep in the Ardennes countryside. The 24.6 km route starts here and gradually descends toward Stavelot.
For those choosing the shorter routes starting directly from Stavelot's city center, there’s still a chance to experience parts of this historic trail while enjoying less demanding sections. Additionally, hikers have the option to shorten their journey by two kilometers if they disembark at Hedoumont during transportation breaks along the way.
While no official forecast stop is planned near the start location due to logistical challenges in that area, participants are assured a brief respite around 20 minutes before reaching their destination. This will take place at a roadside restaurant where refreshments and restrooms are available for use.
This event promises an immersive experience through one of Belgium’s most scenic landscapes, perfect for seasoned hikers as well as those new to the trails looking for a memorable day out in nature.
