NWR Cougar Chase 5K and Fun Run 2026

The NWR Cougar Chase 5K and Fun Run returns to Flowood, Mississippi on July 25th for its fifth year of supporting the Northwest Rankin Cross Country team! This event is open to all levels—runners and walkers alike can find their perfect distance. The race offers a full timed 5k run, an untimed 5K walk, and a one-mile fun run.
Race morning finds participants gathering at Flowood City Park, located on the corner of Main Street and Pine Avenue, just off Highway 190 near the historic downtown area. The setting is serene with green spaces, benches, and picnic areas that make for an inviting atmosphere even before the race begins. Spectators can expect a mix of local families and runners enjoying the early morning sun.
Since its inception in 2022, this event has grown to attract over two hundred participants each year. The proceeds from the race directly benefit the Northwest Rankin Cross Country team, aiding them with uniforms, travel expenses, and essential equipment. This community-driven effort ensures that young athletes have access to top-notch resources and support.
The course for both the 5K trail run and walk takes runners through Flowood City Park on a hard and dry surface, making it an ideal route even in typical July conditions. The race starts at 8:00 AM sharp from the park's main entrance, with the finish line also located within walking distance. There are no designated aid stations but water is available upon request.
