About the Event

NICS 5 at Gortalughany presents an exhilarating orienteering challenge for seasoned adventurers. Set against the backdrop of Ireland's rugged landscape, this race features technical and demanding terrain that includes open moorland, limestone escarpments, and blanket bog. Participants will navigate through varied topography characterized by intricate contours, marshy areas, peat cuttings, boulders, and steep ascents.
This event is not recommended for beginners due to the complex nature of its courses. As such, there are no White course options available, ensuring that runners face a true test of skill and endurance.
For those planning to attend, registration isn’t required if using your own SI Card; you can head straight to the start line. However, if you need to hire an SI card, it’s available at the event enquiries desk.
Orienteering enthusiasts will appreciate that SI Air is enabled on all controls except for the Start point, enhancing the precision and accuracy of navigation throughout the race.
Start times are scheduled in 15-minute intervals with up to six runners per color course within each block. This format allows competitors to experience a more personalized start without compromising on the competitive spirit.
Upon crossing the finish line, participants will proceed directly to download their results for immediate feedback on performance and enjoyment of the challenging terrain they’ve conquered.
